Aerial Photography
The HRPDC houses a vast library of aerial photography for the entire Hampton Roads region from 1968 to 2000 and digital aerial photography for 2002. The dates of the photography for the Peninsula are 1968, 1976, 1980, 1987, 1990, 1995 and 2000. The Southside has been flown every five years since 1970. All of the photography is in black and white and the scales vary depending upon the year of capture (1 inch = 1000 feet or 1 inch = 2000 feet).
The digital aerial photography from 2002 was created as a part of the Virginia Base Mapping Project (VBMP). It is available to search and view in the HRPDC library in the Chesapeake office. The HRMapViewer is an interactive mapping program that allows users browse the data or use an address search to locate the area of interest. Imagery is available to print on the color copier for $1 per 11x17

The cost of reproduction depends upon the type of output media chosen. The cost for paper prints and cronoflex varies from $10 to $50 (9 x 9 to 36 x 36) per photograph. The cost for laser reproductions varies from $10 to $15 (81/2 x 11 or 11 x 17) per photograph.
